First aid refers to the initial assistance and care provided to someone who has been injured or suddenly becomes ill before professional medical help arrives.

First aid can be administered by trained individuals, such as first responders, paramedics, and healthcare professionals, as well as by ordinary people who have learned basic first aid techniques.

MCPT are proud to be First Aid Qualified and to be able to provide First Aid services.

Common situations where first aid might be needed include accidents, injuries, sudden illnesses like heart attacks or seizures, choking incidents, burns, and more.

It is crucial to remember that while first aid can be very helpful in emergencies, it is not a substitute for professional medical care.

The primary goals of first aid are to:

  1. Preserve life: The most critical objective is to ensure the person’s immediate safety and prevent their condition from worsening. This may involve actions like opening an airway, controlling bleeding, or performing CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) if necessary.

  2. Prevent further harm: First aid measures should aim to prevent the injury or illness from getting worse. This can include immobilising broken bones, protecting the injured person from additional dangers, or keeping them warm and comfortable.

  3. Promote recovery: Basic first aid can help alleviate pain, reduce the risk of infection, and support the body’s natural healing processes. This might involve cleaning and dressing wounds, providing pain relief, or offering reassurance and emotional support.

After administering first aid, it is typically necessary to seek prompt medical attention for a thorough evaluation and treatment.
